About Conan Taylor
Strategic Leadership Redefining Workplace Law
Conan Taylor serves as the founding and Managing Partner of Taylor Janis Workplace Law, a specialized employment law firm with offices across Alberta and British Columbia. While his extensive legal career spans nearly three decades with over $500 million in resolved contested claims, Conan’s current focus has shifted from active legal practice to strategic leadership. His vision for Taylor Janis Workplace Law is clear: build a team of dedicated employment law professionals who champion workplace rights and provide exceptional service to employees throughout Alberta and BC.
As Managing Partner, Conan has structured the firm around a singular focus—being an authority on workplace law. This specialized approach ensures clients receive skilled guidance from lawyers who dedicate their entire practice to employment matters, resulting in superior representation and outcomes for employees facing workplace challenges.
Building a Client-Centred Firm
Conan’s passion for Taylor Janis Workplace Law stems from his commitment to accessibility and client service. Rather than maintaining an active legal practice, he now channels his energy into building relationships, enhancing client experiences, and expanding the firm’s reach. This strategic decision allows him to focus on ensuring Taylor Janis offices across Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, Red Deer, and Kamloops maintain consistent excellence while remaining accessible to anyone requiring employment law services.
Under Conan’s leadership, Taylor Janis has developed a reputation for combining legal expertise with genuine care for clients. He regularly emphasizes that understanding client needs and providing practical, effective solutions is the cornerstone of the firm’s success. By establishing multiple locations throughout Alberta and BC, Conan has realized his vision of creating a specialized employment law firm that serves diverse communities with the same level of dedication and expertise.
Distinguished Military and Legal Background
Before embarking on his legal career, Conan served as an officer with the Canadian Armed Forces for nine years. After obtaining his Pilot’s Wings in 1983, he accumulated over 4,500 hours of flight time, including three years as a NATO Exchange Officer with the Royal Air Force in the United Kingdom, where he flew Chinook helicopters. Conan retired from military service in 1989, having achieved the rank of Captain.
His academic credentials include a BA (Honours) in Philosophy with First Class Honours from the University of Alberta and an LLB/JD from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. This strong educational foundation, combined with his military discipline and leadership experience, prepared Conan for his subsequent legal career and entrepreneurial ventures.
Throughout his legal career, Conan has maintained a Corporate/Commercial litigation practice, advising businesses and individual clients on litigation risk management, contract review, drafting, negotiation, and general legal oversight. His experience extends to board positions with companies in various industries, including mining, pharmacy, construction, land development, and technology.
Beyond the Office
When not guiding the strategic direction of Taylor Janis Workplace Law, Conan indulges his passion for travel and spends time at his family farm property south of Edmonton. There, he enjoys both working the land and relaxing in nature beneath Alberta’s expansive blue skies—a perfect balance to his professional responsibilities.
This connection to the land reflects Conan’s appreciation for his Canadian roots and provides him with perspective and renewal as he continues to build Taylor Janis Workplace Law into a leading employment law firm serving communities throughout Western Canada.
